Interdisciplinary research: role of funding agencies

Analysis of five large-scale case studies identified five key success factors, which all have implications for funding:

  1. start building integration and coherence early,
  2. identify level or levels at which integration will occur and link levels,
  3. give weight to leadership capacity and integrative vision,
  4. promote and support collaborative working and integration,
  5. ensure learning is embedded in collective memory.
